Introduction to The Endocannabinoid System

The Most Important Regulatory System You Never Knew You Had!

The Most Important Regulatory System You Never Knew You Had!

The Endocannabinoid System or ECS is a recently discovered physiologic system of endogenously produced neurotransmitters and their respective receptors that helps maintain homeostasis within the body. A body that maintains a state of homeostasis or equilibrium is healthy and functions properly. Our bodies are made to heal themselves and this ancient system is critical to that process.

Cannabinoids mimic compounds our body already produces!

The ECS is so named because it was discovered as researchers were studying the effects of marijuana on the body. They found that the cannabinoids derived from marijuana mimic compounds our body already produces! The receptors for these chemical compounds are found literally all over our body and help explain why one plant can affect so many illnesses, maladies and disorders. Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands and immune cells. The receptors in this system are believed to be more numerous than any other receptor system and scientists have found that manipulating them can control diabetes, cancer, epilepsy, anxiety, autism, neurological disorders, PAIN and the list goes on and on and on!

Dr. David Allen, a retired cardiac surgeon and member of the International Cannabinoid Research Society (ICRS) says that, “The discovery of the ECS is the single most important scientific, medical discovery ever and will save more lives than the discovery and application of sterile surgical technique.” And remember folks, he’s a HEART SURGEON!! He goes on to say, “More people will be saved by the manipulation of the ECS than are currently being saved by surgery!” Ummmm, and why isn’t this being taught in medical schools???

What follows is a video where Dr. Allen talks about a very specific benefit of cannabis and then says something very eye-opening about long-term use of cannabis…..

“All use is medicinal!” WOWWWWW!!!!

There are currently more than 42,000 published studies (PubMed search) on cannabinoids or cannabis and more are being added to the database every day. This is just the tip of the iceberg!

Thank you for reading. Next entry will get into the specifics of the receptors, which kinds there are, where they are located and how specific cannabinoids work there!
